PAC Boot FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions about Hoffman Pac Boots

What is the difference between Hoffman Boots and others?

The Hoffman Pac Boots are built with the finest materials available. From our quality rubber bottoms, to the durable oil-tanned leather uppers, to the quilted Thinsulate liners or heavy-duty 9mm felt liners- at Hoffman Boots, we strive to make our boots with the highest quality materials made to last. The other major difference you will find with Hoffman Boots is the custom fit. These boots are hand-made with a supportive fit, which allow comfort for someone spending an entire day on their feet.

What is the life expectancy of these boots?

There are too many factors to define how long our boots will last for each customer, because of the wide variety of uses and usage our boots are made for. Rest assured, however, every pair of Hoffman Pac boots is built to take a beating. If you do wear the rubber bottom of our Pac boot out, you can simply send the boots in to be rebuilt, for approximately half the cost of a new pair.

Are they waterproof and what do I treat the leather with?

The rubber bottoms of our Pac boots are completely waterproof. The oil-tanned uppers, made with our heavy-duty 7 oz. leather, are highly water resistant. No leather is waterproof - however by treating the leather with a waterproofing treatment of Hoffman Premium Dressing or Oil can increase the water resistance dramatically. In extremely wet conditions, our seam sealant can be used to seal the stitched seams, also increasing the water resistance greatly.

How warm are the boots?

Many factors come into play with warmth - activity level, type of socks, a person's circulation, and weather conditions. We have found that the number one factor in cold feet is poor sock choice or boots that fit too tight. If you have further questions on boot warmth, please feel free to contact our customer service department.

How do I know what size to order?

Hoffman Pac Boots are available in whole sizes only and are sized to incorporate a good quality boot sock. Look at our fitting tips for help with this.

FITTING TIPS: Hoffman felt pacs run true to size. Whole size-order the same. Half size-Order down (i.e.: 9 1/2 would order 9) unless you have a wide foot.

FITTING TIPS: Hoffman Thinsulate Pacs tend to run small. Add 1 size to your current shoe size. (i.e.: size 9 or 9 1/2 would order a size 10)

What size should I order if I am a woman?

The boots are available in unisex sizes 5-15. Women should order one to one and half sizes down from their normal shoe size.

Does your boots come in different heights and what is best?

Our leatehr uppers are Made in Idaho - the height of the boot comes down to personal preference. We can build you  a 10", 12” or 14" upper - depending on your preference.

Will these boots fit into stirrups?

Yes, our thinsulate lined boots generally will. However, as with any rubber bottom boot, caution must be used. Do not slide your foot all the way into the stirrups. Our felt lined Cowboy pacis also a good choice for stirrup use and oversized stirrups are recommended.

What socks should I wear?

We recommend a good quality boot sock. Merino wool is a great way to add additional warmth. The weight (thickness) of the boot sock can be adjusted to customize the fit of your boots. - Narrow foot = extra heavy weight sock, wide foot = lightweight sock. We offer a few different socks that we have found to work well.

Can I take the liners out and should I have a second liner?

Yes, you can! Removable liners allow easier and quicker drying. We recommend an extra set of liners, if you will be using your Hoffman Pacs on consecutive days, so you can rotate them daily.
